La edición de libros y folletos en la conformación del anarquismo argentino

    Get PDF

Insights into a Novel blaKPC-2-Encoding IncP-6 Plasmid Reveal Carbapenem-Resistance Circulation in Several Enterobacteriaceae Species from Wastewater and a Hospital Source in Spain

Untreated wastewater, particularly from hospitals and other healthcare facilities, is considered to be a reservoir for multidrug-resistant bacteria. However, its role in the spread of antibiotic resistances in the human population remains poorly investigated. We used whole genome sequencing (WGS) to analyze 25 KPC-2-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates from sewage water collected during a 3-year period and three clinical Citrobacter freundii isolates from a tertiary hospital in the same collection area in Spain. We detected a common, recently described, IncP-6 plasmid carrying the gene blaKPC-2 in 21 isolates from both sources. The plasmid was present in diverse environmental bacterial species of opportunistic pathogens such as C. freundii, Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella oxytoca, and Raoultella ornithinolytica. The 40,186 bp IncP-6 plasmid encoded 52 coding sequences (CDS) and was composed of three uniquely combined regions that were derived from other plasmids recently reported in different countries of South America. The region harboring the carbapenem resistance gene (14 kb) contained a Tn3 transposon disrupted by an ISApu-flanked element and the core sequence composed by ISKpn6 / blaKPC-2 / ?blaTEM-1 / ISKpn27. We document here the presence of a novel promiscuous blaKPC-2 plasmid circulating in environmental bacteria in wastewater and human populations

Detection of mecC-Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates in river water : a potential role for water in the environmental dissemination

    Get PDF
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a public health concern due to limited treatment options. The recent description of a mecA homologue, mecC in human and cattle, led to studies to detect this new variant in human and other animal species. Detection of mecC in wild boar and fallow deer in a Spanish game estate led us to further investigate the presence of mecC-MRSA at this location. Samples from cattle, wild animals, workers and river water were tested. A further three mecC-MRSA isolates were obtained from river water. Molecular characterization (multilocus sequence typing and spa typing) and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (broth microdilution) showed that isolates were similar to those detected in wild animals. Whole genome sequencing confirmed that the isolates from the river water and wild animals in the same geographic area were all closely related isolates of ST425 mecC-MRSA. The presence of mecC-MRSA in the river water highlights the potential role of water in the dissemination of mecC-MRSA

Effect of Preventive Chlamydia abortus Vaccination in Offspring Development in Sheep Challenged Experimentally

Ovine enzootic abortion, caused by Chlamydia abortus, leads to important economic losses worldwide. In addition to reproductive failures, infection may impact lamb growth during the first weeks after birth, yet this effect has not been well characterized. Vaccination can help to control the disease but variable efficacy values have been described, possibly related with factors associated with the host, the vaccine, the parameter used for efficacy determination and the challenge conditions. In this context, we evaluated the efficacy of an inactivated standard commercial vaccine and a 1/2 diluted dose in pregnant sheep challenged with C. abortus by examining multiple indicators ofvaccine effect (including incidence of reproductive failures, bacterial excretion, and evolution of weight gain of viable lambs during the first month of life). Three groups of ewes [control non-vaccinated, C (n = 18); vaccinated with standard dose, SV (n = 16) and vaccinated with 1/2 dose, DV (n = 17)], were challenged approximately 90 days post-mating and tested using direct PCR (tissue samples and vaginal swabs) and ELISA (serum) until 31 days post-reproductive outcome. There were not significant differences in the proportions of reproductive failures or bacterial shedding after birth/abortion regardless the vaccination protocol. However, a beneficial effect of vaccination on offspring growth was detected in both vaccinated groups compared with the controls, with a mean increase in weight measured at 30 days of life of 1.5 and 2.5 Kg (p = 0.056) and an increase in the geometric mean of the daily gain of 8.4 and 9.7% in lambs born from DV and SV ewes compared to controls, respectively. Our results demonstrate the effect of an inactivated vaccine in the development of the offspring of C. abortus-infected ewes at a standard and a diluted dose, an interesting finding given the difficulty in achieving sufficient antigen concentration in the production of EAE-commercial vaccines

Dynamic characterization of meandering channels planform

    Get PDF
Meandering channels develop different geometry patterns alongthe floodplain during its evolution. These natural processes lead todeveloping lateral and longitudinal migration, describing a sort of sweptthat affect the human activities. As the equilibrium geometry of naturalchannels depends on: the flow and sediment discharge, geologicalconditions of valley, soil properties, and vegetation among others, thepreliminary characterization is not easy. Due to this, several engineering and scientific problems require an appropriate description ofmorphological processes. The dynamic characterization like thequantification of wavelength, amplitude, sinuosity, and curvature usingMedium Temporal Scheme (MTS) is using widely. Unlike the traditionalscheme that only uses short or long-term schemes, MTS includes relevantmorphological events (e.g., cutoff). In addition this, the satellite images has increased and achieves a high spatial resolution, even more when studying large basins. This paper presents and validates a MATLAB®-based toolbox called Meander Statistics Toolbox (MStaT) to perform thedynamic characterization of several meandering channels using the MTS.To run MStaT only need the centerline (CL), and the average width ofchannel as input parameters. To maximize the toolbox, MStaT incorporatesthe Wavelet Analysis (WA) to decompose the signal (CL) and obtains thepower spectrum. Finally, two studies cases (synthetic and natural channels) will be presented to validate MStaT.Fil: Dominguez Ruben, Lucas Gerardo. Universidad Nacional del Litoral. Meander Statistics Toolbox (MStaT): a toolbox for geometry characterization of bends in large meandering channels

    Get PDF
This contribution presents MStaT, a wavelet-based open-source software developed to provide a detailed characterization of large meandering river morphodynamics. MStaT integrates three independent modules: (i) meandering morphometrics module; (ii) migration module; and (iii) confluence module. MStaT delivers a short and medium-term framework to analyze the river centerline and valley-meandering channel interrelationship at low computational cost. It provides quantitative information on the spatial distribution of the arc-wavelength, migration rates, cutoffs events, and tributary channels influences. Data are presented through a user-friendly graphical user interface that makes the output interpretation easier, and that is freely available to the communities of river morphodynamics scientists and engineers.Fil: Dominguez Ruben, Lucas Gerardo.
